Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy stimulates the soft tissue beneath the skin’s surface to speed up your recovery using sound waves in order to increase your blood flow. By doing so, the heating and massaging effects of the ultrasound helps reduces swelling and oedema. As a result, ultrasound therapy reduces pain, promotes healing and reduces scarring by stimulating collagen which quickens the healing process for soft tissue injuries.

A special ultrasound gel is applied to the skin over the site if injury to ensure maximal contact between the metal treatment head of the ultrasound machine and the surface of the skin and to provide a medium through with the sound waves can travel. The treatment head is then moved over the surface of the skin in the region of the injury transmitting the sound waves into the tissues.

Our professional podiatrists use this painless treatment to help muscle, tendons, ligaments and joints injuries such as Achilles tendinopathy, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, Sever’s disease, Osgood-Schlatter disease.

Contraindications of ultrasound include local malignancy, metal implants below the area being treated, local acute infection, vascular abnormalities and bone fracture.
